When the third weekend in May rolls around, it’s time for the Door County Scottie Rally in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin.Door County Scottie Rally

This year we had a pirate theme.

Despite the threat of rain and cold temperatures, the rally remained undaunted.

The Terrier Tech tent housed some of the workshops you could participate in if you liked.

Sat. schedule of events at Rally

Although FB puts us in touch with many Scottie people, the rally presents opportunity to meet them in person, old and new.  We are always glad to see our friends from Saint Louis Scottish Terrier Rescue.  They work tirelessly year round for the good of Scotties.

Tracie Lange is my new BFF. She has been a friend of our FB page and looked us up while at the rally.  She took good care of me while Mom and Dad watched Brother take part in the barn hunt and earth dog activities. (photo borrowed from Tracie Lange)

Although we have known Australian Beril Murray for several years, Mom got to meet Lynne Spencer of Rocky Creek Farms for the first time.  Mom says a visit to Rocky Creek is on her bucket list. (photo by Jason Rhodes)

Kathy, Deb and Connie at DCSR

We love our Wisconsin friends, Kathy, Deb and Connie.  It was Deb and Kathy’s first rally.  They had a blast.  You remember, we stopped to see them in Tomah before continuing to Door County.

The rally is also a  benefit for the heath and rescue of Scotties and monies raised through donations, auctions, and raffles go to this purpose.

This is a replacement for the other blog entry.  For some reason, the pictures never loaded.  The wifi signal was very weak and Mom finally gave up on trying to post.

One of the first things we do upon arrival is check out all our favorite spots such as the marina in Fish Creek.

Lucy

Since we were in Fish Creek, we paid Sunset Beach a call.

Every year we visit Anderson Dock in Ephraim.  There has been a dock here since 1858 when Norwegian immigrants constructed the first one to aid in exporting local products such as cedar and salted fish.

Mom loves to takes pictures here because the old warehouse now the Hardy Gallery is such a colorful backdrop.

Indy

Indy and Lucy

This fall Indy and Lucy will be among the names you see.  See how snoopy we are.

Indy and Lucy

We like to take one day and drive around the peninsula, go to our favorite places, check for changes, here a sniff, there a sniff.  In looking for the place we are going to rent this fall, we stumbled on this.

Door County Barn

Love the barn quilt patterns but often the barns are too far from the road to photograph without a telephoto lens.  Remember, Mom only has an IPhone.

Fish Creek Scenic Boat Tours

Mom and Dad took another boat ride around the Fish Creek area and Peninsula State Park.

The limestone cliffs and caves of Peninsula Park are part of the Niagara Escarpment, a geological formation most famous as the cliff over which the Niagara River plunges at Niagara Falls, for which it is named.  Cottage Row, exclusive Fish Creek realty, could be viewed on the way back to harbor.  Often called Millionaire’s Row, this strip of shore side has been one of Door County’s most preferred addresses for the past 100 years when Chicago leading tycoons, magnates, and robber barons left their grand mansions on Prairie Avenue and established equally elaborate ones for summer on the shores of Green Bay.

Installment Nine

We arrived later than usual because of the GPS incident; you remember?  Not having eaten on the road, the peeps were starving.  There was a place up the street from our cottage that Mom wanted to try.   It was perfect: reubens, cheeseburgers and sweet potato fries.  In fact, they ate there several times during our stay.  It was a cozy, kick back sort of place.

Fish Creek, WI
Bayside Tavern, Fish Creek, WI

The Blue Horse Café is a great place for breakfast or lunch and right out our front door.  It’s got a view of the bay inside and outdoor PET FRIENDLY dining.  Menu includes breakfast and lunch sandwiches as well as bakery items and gourmet coffees.  Dad loves the ‘Meatzilla’ and Mom’s fave is the bacon cheddar biscuit.  Jalapeno biscuits were a hit this year too.

Blue Horse, Fish Creek, WI

The White Gull Inn, also in Fish Creek, is known for its famous cherry stuffed French toast. Mom and Dad had a few breakfasts there as well as lunch with friends.

Fish Creek is listed by Forbes as one of the 15 prettiest towns in America.  This historic B&B contributes to it.

This year a new restaurant, LURE, opened in Sister Bay which is a little over 8 miles up Hwy 42 from our home base in Fish Creek.  Seafood is its specialty and the peeps met Lesley and Bill Connor from Pennsylvania and the Australians, Mark and Wendy, for dinner on its opening night.  Naturally, the oysters made it a must for Mom but Lesley’s whitefish almondine looked so good Mom made a return visit to order it.  She went to a fish boil (very popular in Door) our first year here and got an unfavorable impression of the whitefish.  Now thanks to the culinary expertise at the Lure, she’s a fan.

Lure, Sister Bay
Dinner at the Lure, Sister Bay

The owners of the LURE are also responsible for another of the peeps’ favorites, the CHOP.  They ate there several times but don’t have a picture.  However, word is that the carrot cake is the best you can get.  Thumps up if you got them to everything on the menu, Mom said, plus they got to see Elli Lapolla, part owner and  waitress extraordinaire.  Door County is truly about family businesses.  There were a couple of pet friendly places we didn’t get to this year: the DC Deli in Baileys Harbor, Coyote Roadhouse on Kangaroo Lake and the Harbor Grille in Baileys Harbor only once.  There are still many places to try and others to revisit.  Mom is making her list for fall.

Installment Eight

We were lucky the cherry trees were in bloom this year.  This is the third year we have seen them.  One year it was a cold spring and they were not blooming yet.   It is a glorious sight.

Cherry orchards of Door County

Lautenbach’s  orchard and winery are favorites and the honeycrisp apple wine is delish.

This is Mom’s favorite spot to photograph the cherry trees.  It’s over by Applewood Cottage on the EE.

The woodlands are carpeted with this lovely perennial, the trillium. as well as these forget me nots.

We take a picture in front of these tulips every year.

Scottie Pins

The second coat of paint is on the frame and Mom will probably wax it today.  The closest fabric store is 60 miles away though so it will be tomorrow before Dad goes to Tulsa to get the black velvet.  Hopefully, they will have it.  Meanwhile it is Scottie pin selection time.

This big boy is a fave.  Think he’ll go at the top.

This one while not celluloid is one of Mom’s favorites.  It will be included.

New ornaments 2015

The Parade of Ornaments was offimage

to an early start this year.  #1, the number means nothing except it was first listed, came from a card shop on Etsy filled with nostalgic holiday items, cherrysjubileecards.  Mom loves handmade.

image

She also loves Scotties and crescent moons. #2 is available on ebay in different colors.  Google Scottie Christmas ornaments. 🙂

image

#3 also found on ebay…who doesn’t love a bobblehead?  🙂

image

Mary Engelbreit (online) had several new ornaments with a beach theme this year.  Hailing in at #4, this is one of several.

image

#5 is a gift from our friends Patricia Bonnel and Sir Achille.  It is one a trio, painted by Manna Nelson, which include one for Lucy and the first Scottie, Sophie too.

image

This precious one is from Barbra Brandt.  The Scotties look like Indy and Lucy; don’t you think?

image

This is Santa’s Senior Moment…he has lost his sleigh and Scottie is helping him look.  #7, Mom identifies. BOL.

image

This cute ice skating Scottie came from our Kansas pals, Gordon and Gillis and their pawrents, Mary and Larry Lauber.  #8

Here are Indy and Lucy again at #9.  Handmade clay ornaments from an Etsy shop and a gift from Lulu Belle, her mom Judy and the rest of the Mudgett clan.

image
image

#10 was purchased at Seasonal Concepts and #11 was found online at Campbell’s Scottish terriers.  Mom says it is always a go to place for Scottie ornaments and other good Scottie things as well.

Painted by Manna Nelson, a gift from Leah McIntosh and her Mac is #12.  There is one for Lucy too.  Mom loves the gold color and the snow effect. ♥
