Power of the Scarf Revisited

When we posted some of our baby pictures, we told you about the “scarf”.  Mom really wanted us to wear bandanas because first Scottie Sophie was never without one. Mom stumbled on another use accidently. She then began to use it as a way to keep us rowdy Scotties in line.

image

It still works even though Mom doesn’t use it much anymore;  it never fails to get our attention.

image

So these lovely scarves that Diane Lewis( thank you, Diane) made us are going to go to some other lucky Scotties because despite the fact they are so cute, this is what happens if we have to wear them.

Rainy Days and Thunder

Two more days of rain in the forecast, Mom said. We have been getting an inch or more a day and we have yet to get the repercussions from Tropical Storm Bill.  I hope my Texas friends are ok.  Mom insists I wear my raincoat when I go out and I have to wipe my paws when I come inside.

I got some great treats in the mail yesterday from my friend Patty Brown.  She lives in California.  She loves Scotties.  Thank you again, Patty.  I promise I will share.

Don’t Have Time for the Summertime Blues

We are very busy around here.  It keeps raining; when it is not, Mom runs to the yard to do some work.  The humidity is like the tropics, Mom said, without a breeze from the ocean.  Dad goes to Tulsa daily for Grand PaPa who is out of the hospital by the way.  Thank you for your prayers and best wishes. I put this sign up so the bunnies would get the idea “Keep Out”.

I have been doing all I can to help.

Indy and Lucy Visit the Whippety Wood

Tags

Whippety Wood is a place to celebrate magic and nature.  Its inhabitants include whimsical faeries, curious Scotties, characters like Harcourt Hedgehog, Bertie Badger, Martin Mole, Lochie Loon and a host of others.  A visit to Whippety Wood is always a true adventure.

image

We loved riding the train to get there.  Everyone put out the red carpet for us.  Some our other friends have experienced daring and exciting escapades in the Whippety  too.  Logan our friend from Brazil assisted the badgers in their search for a special Scottie; Mac, practicing his stealth skills, stumbled upon a dancing fairy; Sammy and Teddy got to look into a crystal ball and the little Cairn terrier, Wheezy, helped to save the baby seals.

Some Scotties live in the Whippety Wood.

Casper and Holly are waiting where the rainbow ends for their loved ones.  All the frogs and mice scurry to find them the choicest treats.

Thanks, Pamela Harden, for the enchanted expedition into the extraordinary world of Whippety Wood. ~ Indy and Lucy

WildLife Going Wild

It has been critter central since we got home.

There were three more bunnies of this size in our yard (this is our yard) this morning.  They were chasing each other and carrying on despite our reverberating auditory salvos.  Yesterday evening Mom saw the little bunny that ran over her foot.  It was too dark to take a picture but it is about the size of her fist.

image

Additionally there were squirrels everywhere too.  Maybe the light rain we were experiencing was refreshing everyone.

The cooler temps made it nice to play ball though.  On the down side, the hospital would not release Grand PaPa today.  His kidneys were not functioning correctly.  Maybe tomorrow (Sunday). ~ Indy and Lucy

It’s a New Ball Game

Yep, I got a new Jolly ball.  I finally shook the other one to death.image

I know it is pink but Mom already bought us a blue one of a different type.  It is one of those that has a handle.  I go through those quickly because the handle does not stand up well to my ferocious shaking.  It is good for Sister except she tends to want the ball that I have no matter what.

Summertime

image

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers about Grand PaPa.  They are still doing testing so we don’t know anything conclusive yet.

image

Mom has fixed me some tasty treats and I have helped her in the yard.

image

Yesterday a bunny ran straight over Mom’s foot.  It was faster than a road runner.  We were both stunned.  We also found a 6 inch snake skin.  It was as round Mom’s little finger.  It’s probably kin to the one Brother ate last summer.  I love that story.

Middle of the Night Phone Calls

In the early hours Wednesday morning, our phone rang.  Mom says it is rarely a good thing when the phone rings at that hour and sure enough,it wasn’t.  Grand PaPa said he was having chest pains and his arm was numb.  He lives in Tulsa, 60 miles away.  Dad rushed to Tulsa to take him to the emergency room and I am sure you have guessed…he was having a heart attack.  Dad came back a little before 8 to sleep, feed the horses and then returned to Tulsa.  The heart attack was mild according to the doctors.  You have to understand though that Grand PaPa is 91; he is a WWII vet, served on the USS Colorado; a heart attack is serious business. Get Well, Grand PaPa

When Squirrels Fly

image

A lone bunny was out this morning.  When he turned to the side, he looked just like that chocolate bunny you see at Easter.  The temperature was already 72 and the mosquitoes were buzzing; it’s going to be hot today.  However, something of more interest caught my eye.

Well, hello, Mr. Flying Squirrel.   Just back from his nocturnal adventures, I guess he was turning in for the day.  I hope he stays around because he sure is cute…for squirrel. ~ Lucy

Dancing Rabbits

Yesterday morning I noticed two bunnies facing each other in our yard.  One would inch a little closer and the other would jump straight up in the air.  The next time the rabbit ran right at the other bunny and it jumped again allowing the other to go under it.  I was so busy watching this unusual behavior that I forgot to bark.

image

I asked Mom to find out what was happening.

image

“Run and play, little rabbit,” said the Fairy to the Velveteen Rabbit and play they did.  I was a witness to what is known in the rabbit world as ‘binking’.  It is one of the most notable ways that rabbits communicate jubilation.  Who knew, right?   The buns are simply trying to express how happy they are and perhaps a bit mischievous.  Now it could be a ‘spring dance’ too; we will have to wait and see but I think they were just binking in the early summer morning.

They are probably doing this while we sleep. ~ Lucy
