Dad went to a Civil War re-enactment this weekend.
Here I am seeing him off to war.
Round Mountain is listed as the first battle fought in Indian Territory during the Civil War. Every February the Round Mountain Trust hosts a winter encampment/ re-enactment of that era (1861).
This is a photograph of Dad taken during Saturday’s campaign by Todd Benton, one of Mom’s former students.
Re-enactments are scripted living history events. In days of yore, Dad rode cavalry. He now fires the cannons. He had to go to a special safety school to learn how to do it properly. Participants usually change sides the second day which require two sets of uniforms. (archive, personal photo)
My dad is so cool. ~ Lucy
Oh yes, he is!!! my momma always dreamed to be a part of such an event … sadly we haven’t such cool things in our boring old europe… she would love it to be there….

Yes your Dad is pretty cool. Thanks for sharing the information of the re-enactment. I did not know that they changed sides of the second day. Guess that allows everyone to win and understand the difficulties each side experienced. Great pictures of you on his lap.

Yes, Lucy, we’d say your dad is very cool! The pictures are all great, especially the ones in the sepia tones! My peep went to a re-enactment here on Long Island which she really enjoyed but she doesn’t remember the name of the battle! Thank you for sharing this, it’s such an important part of our history!

The blue vs. the gray. Judging by the last few pictures, your Dad obviously fought on the red side.

He did Saturday when Mom took the pictures. On Sunday, he wore the blue.
Red denotes artillery.

Thanks for the history and great pictures. Were there any Scotties on the front lines? Probably not since we don’t follow directions or listen!

Every year we have a reenactment of The Battle of Guilford Court House, a battle that the British won, but we’re so decimated, that they ended up surrendering which led to the end of the Revolutionary War. We live kind of close to the Park, and can hear the guns going off. It seems like every other year, they have good weather, or else it rains and rains. Your Dad looks great, and we think it’s a cool passion to persue. Great photos too!

Mum wants to ask you if your Dad had been watching the “Mercy Street” serial that ended last night on PBS and aired right after Masterpiece Theater’s, “Downton Abbey”.
“Mercy Street” takes place during the Civil War.
Thanks, says Mum

Love this! Every year in our little town of Ligonier we have a reenactment of the fight that happened at Fort Ligonier during the French/Indian war. The reenactors stay in uniform for the weekend. It’s a really big deal here every year. We love it…Fort Ligonier Days…in sw PA…
