Mom had thought about this idea but could not decide exactly what it would be. Remember this cream shadow box. It is now going to house the black Scottie pins. The material for the inside is a cream linen which will definite showcase the other pins as they tended to disappear into the black velvet.

Just the outside frame will be red; the rest will remain cream. It’s color blocked. Dad is taking it to the glass shop today to have a piece cut for the front. It was missing when Mom got it. Shadowboxes can be found at Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, or any framing place. Check out estate sales for old picture frames too. You can repurpose them into many things. Mom saw several of them grouped into a towel rack on DIY.com; it was pretty neat. She has two frames she picked up last spring; she wants to turn one into a magnet holder…Scottie magnets, of course. 🙂 ~ Indy and Lucy

The frame is finished although the last coming together of the foam backing, pins, frame and glass was not easy. We have Dad to thank for that.

Here it is hanging in place as part of a wall system Mom is creating above her desk to store various items( in tins and boxes) and display treasures

We live in a small 1000 square foot cottage that was built prior to Oklahoma statehood(1907) so all storage is premium. Baskets, tins, boxes – all have something in them.

Mom has a nice view while sitting at her computer. There’s also room for one more shelf. There was only one injury during the hanging of this frame. After showing Dad where she wanted the frame to go, she stepped back and onto Dad’s poor toes…..lucky he wasn’t holding anything when that happened. Anyway, it turned out to be a great way to display fragile items; what do you think? ~ Indy and Lucy

First, Dad’s toes are somewhat better. GrandPaPa’s shower is getting fixed; naturally the tile and wall had to be torn out to get to it. Mother bought a hard drive for $60 and the computer dr. put it in for $45 so that saved a bunch for now. It is Windows 7 and Intel 3 but for its use…just fine. Dad did get the black velvet when he went to see GrandPaPa yesterday so the frame should come together quickly. I love that my vantage place is back again.

It is a perfect place to view the cats cross the street to our yard.

I sound the alarm at the first sign of fur; it puts them in a state of confusion. Never enough to turn around and go back to their own yard though. Cats are some of the biggest threats birds face in the wild; they kill like 1 billion a year and the cats around here are outdoor cats so we have a definite problem. It’s kitty time too if you know what I mean. More cats!

Chalk Paint

There are several reasons Mom likes to paint with chalk paint: no odor so you can paint inside, vintage look you can get with waxing, and dries in 30 minutes. There are all kinds but she uses one called Annie Sloan.

This wooden frame has two parts.

See the groove to fit frame within frame. You don’t have to paint the back; it’s a Mom thing.

Here are your supplies: paint, brush, wax, old tee shirt for applying wax and panty hose for buffing..

This is a buffing brush that fits on the end of an electric drill. You really don’t need it for a project like this but she bought it when she refinished the coffee table so she uses it.

Step one is two coats of paint.

Apply clear wax and then the dark or you don’t have to put the dark on at all. Mom wanted to deepen the red and give it an antique look so she did. If you get too much dark wax, put clear over it and it comes right off. Mom does little sections at a time.

See how the wax gives it a texture. This is easy enough to be done in an afternoon. Good Painting. ~ Indy and Lucy

The second coat of paint is on the frame and Mom will probably wax it today. The closest fabric store is 60 miles away though so it will be tomorrow before Dad goes to Tulsa to get the black velvet. Hopefully, they will have it. Meanwhile it is Scottie pin selection time.

This big boy is a fave. Think he’ll go at the top.

This one while not celluloid is one of Mom’s favorites. It will be included.

Polka dots? You know it.

Feng Shui

Mom, on a feng shui mission to “move 27 things” to make room for good things to find her in 2016, is certainly finding new energy.

The sweater, coat and collar drawers have been sorted. Items have been mailed to others that can use them.

She is reorganizing the Scottie office now. This is a continuing project for space and display. She found a vintage frame in the basement and has decided to repurpose it to showcase some of her celluloid Scottie pins.

Not to worry, this is the back. BOL. The front has some detail but the coolest part is the convex glass. Have a good rest of the week out there and remember THINK SNOW. ~ Lucy

I love this sweater. Despite the turtleneck, it is very easy on and off. It also contours to my body and is very warm. Mom liked it so well she bought a purple one just like it. She has the shopping philosophy that if you find something that fits buy more than one. Oh she got this years ago at the Baby D Holiday Market on Etsy but does not see it in stock at this time.

Manna Nelson knitted this one. How cute is it with the Scottie and the snowflakes? I love her sweaters. Manna is multi-talented. She painted the personalized Scottie Christmas ornaments we received this year from Leah and Pat. Need a winter hat? She knits those too. Yesterday Mom was cleaning out our Scottie drawers. I think she is in a THINK SNOW mode because she was having me try on our coats and sweaters to make sure they still fit. This is one of my faves. It is warm and snuggly because it is fleece lined.

Mom bought this coat from our friend Heidi Heath. She has a shop on Etsy named ScottishPleasures, specializing in tartan fleece coats. They are modeled by her Scottie Diesel, quite the handsome guy I might add. Anyway, if you need a new coat or some rain gear, here’s a good place. They fit the Scottie body well, Mom says. I loooove that yellow slicker.
