Sneak Peek

We had one big storm last night.  It interrupted SURVIVOR…dish down.  The wind was blowing; rain was so fierce that you could not see; lightening lit up the sky and then there was….you guessed it: THUNDER.  At the first clap which was directly over our head, I ran straight for Mom’s lap and she held me tight.  I panted and shook a little but I’m not as nervous as some pups.  I don’t like it though.Lucy

Big front “blew” through and dropped the temps 20 degrees from yesterday.  Anyway, Mom has been cleaning out her closet and has Dad building some roll out shelving.  Our new chair was delivered; I overheard Mom say something about Scottie proof fabric.  What else?  Hmmm. How do you like my Easter dress. ~ Lucy

We received a lovely snack and bunnies in the mail from Bonnie, Clyde and their peeps in Roosendaal, Netherlands.  Thank you again for thinking of us.  We always love Bonnie and Clyde’s Easter card.

Remember this old shelf that came from an estate sale.  Dad said it was a standard “shop” class project in school books during the sixties which were printed in the 40s so probably some little boy made this for his mom.  Dad said he made one just like it for his.

How do you like it now?  It makes such a handy place for trinkets and treasures.

Battle of Round Mountain

Special event

Dad went to a Civil War re-enactment this weekend.

imageHere I am seeing him off to war.

image

Round Mountain is listed as the first battle fought in Indian Territory during the Civil War.  Every February the Round Mountain Trust hosts  a winter encampment/ re-enactment of that era (1861).

This is a photograph of Dad taken during Saturday’s campaign by Todd Benton, one of Mom’s former students.

Re-enactments are scripted living history events.  In days of yore, Dad rode cavalry. He now fires the cannons.  He had to go to a special safety school to learn how to do it properly.  Participants usually change sides the second day which require two sets of uniforms.  (archive, personal photo)

Rustic Cuff

Perhaps if you don’t live in Oklahoma, you have yet to hear of this phenomenon  called Rustic Cuff but believe us, you will.  A fan of regifting, Jill Donovan, once Tulsa attorney and TU law professor, is the creator of this unique jewelry brand based on that concept.  What started as a horrible experience on OPRAH led Jill to a new endeavor, the creative hobby of jewelry crafting, specifically cuffs.  That beginning in a spare bedroom is now a business with stores in Tulsa and boutiques across the US as well as a booming mailorder trade.  Read Jill’s story at http://www.rusticcuff.com.

Rustic Cuff

Rustic Cuff is all about the stack…of bracelets.  Bracelets have different names and  styles, a glossary of their own. For example, a unicorn is a bracelet you really love and haven’t been able to find/buy. They run in price from $20 to $125. You can wear as many as you feel comfortable and on both arms as well as one.  Most of the stacks featured here Mom found on Pinterest.

Rustic Cuff

This one is for our Kentucky friends.  She thought of them the moment she saw it.

These are some of Mom’s favorites because she loves the colors and combos.  Rustic Cuff has two other one of a kind concepts: COTM (Cuff of the Month) you can sign up for this and automatically receive an unseen cuff that has been especially designed by Jill and the second is the Regifters Club, a club of compassion for one’s fellow man, in which two inspirational quote cuffs are received, one to keep and one to give away.  This is Mom’s stack she put together with the Radley the cousins brought back from London.

This is another one which has two customized cuffs.

Remember last week when Brother didn’t feel good and was having that unpleasant odor problem.

image

Well, yesterday when Brother had his annuals, Dad asked Dr. Pokey about that and the getting up in the middle of the night for the bathroom.  She gave Brother an internal parasite test.  She didn’t find any parasites now but his bowels were not as firm as they should be so she gave him a med called metronidazole to help with that.  I’m happy to report that we all slept through the night and this morning we were in sync: eat, out, vitamin, treat, back to sleep.

image

I had “Mom time” and played with my latex toys; I loved it.  Dad told Mom it must have been Scottie day at the dogtor because there were 4 other Scotties plus a Westie there.  Brother entertained everyone by doing all his tricks.  However he did bark at Blackie the Cat when it stuck its paw out of the cage and swatted at Dad.  Wish I would have seen that cat.  Hopefully we are back to normal. ~ Lucy

Barked Too Soon

Yes, we barked too soon when we said Mom was finished with her projects.  While looking for something in the basement, she discovered this estate sale shelf her cousin had given her.

image

Mom  said it needs a new purpose and we said she needs to change the calendar month.  BOL

image

The little drawer that flips down is cute too or does it go like this?

image

This way the drawer lifts up. Maybe the drawer is the top and not the bottom.  It’s going to be fun.  What do you think?  Which way should it hang? ~ Indy and Lucy

The shelving unit above Mom’s desk is finished.  It is perfect when floor space is limited and storage is desperately needed.  Mom likes the view of it too.  Did you notice that she painted a couple of the undersides?  Actually, she had Dad decoupage the material one.  The projects are finished for the winter except for a couple of things that need to go to the framers but they don’t go in here.  Anyway, welcome to the Scottie office, it’s a playful place. ~ Indy and Lucy

Remember the two picture frames?

Scottie project
Magnet Project
Boyd Display Shelf

They have now been repurposed.  Mom has been in need of some kind of magnetic board for her favorite Scottie magnets.  All it took was a picture frame, the back off an old microwave cut down and some paint.

image

The larger frame was required to house Mom’s collection of “Macs”.

image

Boyd glass factory in Cambridge, Ohio featured the Mac as the fourth in their Scottie series.  The series began with a special called the ‘Hokey Pokey’ in Oct. 2005 and the rest following till 2011.  The prototype for the Scottie was rejected by 3 Scottie collectors (Karen Campbell, Lesley Connor, and the editor of the then Scottie Sampler, Sydney B).

image

(Middle is rejected prototype)  The image was revised and the current one was approved as a ‘typical Scottie’ as we are sure you will agree. (Lesley, feel free to correct or add anything and thanks for providing this information) Mom tried putting a glaze on the frame but she didn’t like it and repainted.  She is thinking about adding a mirrored back but that is a project for another day.  For now, it makes a perfect display case for these little Macs.  ~ Indy and Lucy
