This was our first road trip in the new car.  Mom was diagnosed and treated for lung cancer in 2009 so now she makes a yearly trip to MD Anderson in Houston, Texas for a medical checkup. We usually don’t go through Dallas but we did this year so we could see our friends, Diane and DD Lewis.

Diane and DD came to our hotel to visit so we didn’t see Duff but she brought us some great presents: a Christmas ornament for Mom,

 some Jalapeno Peach Jelly that Mom adores, nerf balls and treats for us and a kangaroo in honor of our Friends Mark and Wendy from Australia.

We played with kanga while the pawrents went to dinner.  Mom said it was a great evening.  Thanks for all, Diane and DD.

There was this little bunny who has been around our yard since spring.  There were originally two that Mom knows of but the other was earlier dispatched.  Therefore Mom was overprotective of this one.  The yard was always cleared before we went out especially since the bunny had decided to live under our front porch.  In my defense, I will say that the bunny did crazy things all summer long.  It would zoom across the yard even when we were out there.  It would run from its protected area under the porch to outside the fence.  Keep in mind that we have a larger fenced back yard where the bun could have lived.  We seldom go back there.  But noooooo.

So Tuesday evening, Dad ran bunny out from under the porch.  If bunny was not removed, I have a tendency to bark instead of doing my business and Mom was convinced the barking made bunny do crazy stuff.  Anyway Bunny ran back in one time too many.  😦

The TV had many flashbacks this weekend of late August 2005 when Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf coast of the United States.  New Orleans and coastal Mississippi were hit particularly hard. The town of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi was battered by a 30 foot surge leveling beachfront neighborhoods.  It was in one of these neighborhoods that Nikki Moon, innkeeper of the Bay Town Inn, resided with her Scottie Maddie.  With the inn collapsing around her, Nikki, Maddie and two others escaped to a nearby oak tree.  For several hours, while the storm raged around them, Nikki with Maddie tucked under her along with the others, clung to what is now known as the Angel Tree.

 Niki rebuilt the Bay Town Inn; once again terriers are in residence but the old oak died so a local artist carved it into angels. It stands across from the inn, a sentinel on the shore.

If you look closely, you will be able to see little teeth marks.  Brother has a bad case of  barrier frustration.  He can’t get at the squirrel, bunny, UPS truck, mailman or whatever is sending his intruder hormones over the top so he turns to our bed and gives it a good shaking.  He knows better too because he stops when Mom tells him.  He has also bitten holes in several of Mom’s quilts.  That door stays closed now.  Anyway, I find it totally disgusting.  If I have to do it, I just shake a toy.

Here is mastodon, Brother’s favorite toy.  He is at the Pet Hospital awaiting stitches.  This was not of my doing.

If Mom will let me have it, I’ll be nice. 🙂

Saturday morning we received an unexpected surprise, a weather event.  We should have sensed something earlier when it was so warm and humid on our first perimeter check.  Not long after, the skies darkened; the rain, wind, thunder and lightning began.

The thunder and lightning were the worse.  Brother was beneath Mom’s chair and I took up residence under the desk.  I like close corners when it storms.

You know how I love to play fetch with my little tug Mom made me.  We have to have a session every evening.

I let her know the game should begin by moving the tug closer to her because that is what she tells me to do…..closer, closer.

Mom received her necklace that Susan Rogers made.  It is lovely.

Naturally, it has Scotties on it.  The sterling Scotties are a from vintage pin and the stones, round and flat, are facetted black onyx with grey pearls as spacers.  Susan’s FB page is there on the card.

We apologize for the slacking of our secretarial staff in the writing of our blog.  Frankly, it has been so hot that all we have done is stay inside under the air conditioner so there wasn’t much to write.

Today, though,  we had a cool front and a tiny bit of rain that blew all these pine needles down.  It was 70 degrees which is like 40 degrees less than it had been.  Mom was so glad not to have to water the plants.  It’s given everybody a new leash on life. 🙂 ~ Indy and Lucy

Mom uses Young Living essential oils.  There are many that can be used on pets but YL also has a collection of animal scents.  She bought us some of this to help us relax on our last long road trip.  It is effective.

It’s around $16.00 if you are a YL member.  Otherwise it’s about $22.00.  Mom said that was amazing because of some of the oils in it are very expensive. Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood, for example, costs $94, Rose $244, Helichrysum $85, and there are 20 + more.  It would be great for any situation that makes you feel apprehensive, say….like grooming.  Mom just puts a drop or two in her hands and rubs our ears or runs her fingers through our coats.  Oils can also be applied to our paws or diffused in the air in the home or car.  If you are lucky enough to have a vet who looks at the holistic side of things, ask them about essential oils.  It’s good stuff.
