Sister loved toys; she thought they all belonged to her and she guarded them carefully. She was very careful with them and still has toys from her baby days. She chewed wood though. She chewed all the baseboards in Mom’s office and bathroom; she shredded the legs of the oak office chair as well as the boards on the front porch. I guess, between the two of us, our puppyhood pretty well demolished all the furniture. ~ Indy

Lucy, you were so cute, in spite of Mama’s frustration, she had to be deeply in love with you and Brother. The Pawrents who get their fur babies at a later, more sedate age, miss out on so much! In awe, Skyler B

You are probably right. When’s sedate?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Sedate occurs when your predeliction for sampling baseboards, wood products, siding, decks etc segues to chasing your ball, chewing on your kong toys, laying in your sunbeam, and snoozing on Mama. You transition from puppyhood to youthful, which occurs before more sedentary young adult. For more details, consult the Ainsley Institute pamphlet, How To Grow Up Without Giving Your Pawrents a Nervous Breakdown, Volume 1.

It never hurts to get new furniture every couple of years.

Formative years – those necessary formative years. Shucks! Everyone has them – don’t they?

I guess that I owe all of my Scotties extra kisses. The only victim was the rattan little side tables between the two recliners. Sophie and Sidney had a go at them. Sid stopped as soon as I put hot pepper sauce on them, but Sophie must have liked it. She finally gave it up suddenly.

Only furniture unharmed: one sofa, one occasional chair, oak dinner table and chairs. You got off lucky.

Wal-Mart has a bag of rather small rawhide bones – about 3″ long. Anyhow, my “kids” love ’em. I start them when they have baby teeth and it has seemed to steer them away from wood… Okay, that was until I got Ellie the Shih-Tzu and one day while observing dust bunnies I became aware of woodwork down to the nubbins in too many places to count. Whatever. Forget I mentioned it.

We didn’t get rawhide; we got Nylabone. Mom still keeps one or two in our toy basket.
We also like antlers and bully sticks.

When we had five dogs here, a friend gave me greenies. They all got a greenie and it seemed that they all swallowed the greenies. They all threw up greenies. Most were in their original state. Dentastix have to be divided into small pieces as they arer also swallowed by Shelby.

Mom would not let us have greenies because that’s what the first Scottie would do…throw them up..usually in the dead of night.

You might want to try the rawhide, then – My vet says it’s okay and in all the years I have had puppies and “adult” puppies, there has never been a problem. My “kids” have never had antlers and bully sticks. IN FACT, none of us have ever heard of them. Lulu says “Mama, that sounds DEEE-VINE. Please ask Indy and Lucy where there mama buys them so you can get some for us! (Lulu will not be outdone.)

Dad gets ours when he goes out to feed the horses. He finds them where the deer have shed them or sometimes hunters give them to us. If you pm us your address we can mail you some. Some people don’t like to use them because they are hard and could break a tooth. Mom orders bully sticks from http://www.bestbullysticks.com. They also sell antlers and all kinds of USA things including one of our faves: duck feet. Yum-o!!! Our other favorite place is http://www.growlingourmet.com. Yip Yip Hooray. Their Apple Crisp is to howl for.

A treasure trove of info – Many thanks dear Lucy and Indy. We would love to have a couple of antlers and mama has promised to check out the bullystick website. Whoa! But she does not know what you mean by “pm us your address”. She’s really old. When she gets up sometimes, we can actually hear her bones. BOL. Lulu, Andy and Ellie
