Anticipated events of the Door County Scottie Rally for hoomans include live and silent auctions.  Michele Geiger-Bronsky, DCSR founder, has already released a preview of a few such as this Scottie Quilt made by the ladies of the Berlin Wisconsin Senior Center and purchased to donate by Allison Rainboth.  Mom can see us cuddled up in this.

DCSR Auction

Some great pieces of the retired/discontinued Noritake ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ pattern will be available also… thanks to Rich and Ellen Frielund.  This china pattern  produced by Noritake between the years 1996 and 1999  is a true collector’s item.

Three custom pet portraits are for auction In Memory of Ruffles de Scottie, our dear friend who crossed the Bridge a year ago after a valiant battle with cancer.  Mom has to blink back tears just writing this; we miss her so much.  The first is by Alaskan artist Kate Wood whose art medium expertise is watercolor.

DCSR Auction

Two portraits in colored pencil by artist Elena Adam are in the auction as well.

If you cannot be at the rally and would love to bid on the portraits or china, you can personal message a proxy bid to Michele by 5/19.  How fab is that.  Bark at you later. ~ Indy and Lucy

Scottie Rally

Can you believe it is almost that time again?

Door County Scottie Rally

It is a pirate theme this year.  Look at what we had made at PrettiestPets on Etsy.

Indy and Lucy Pirate Costumes

Of course,  we will be rocking our kilts too.  It is a Scottish gathering, after all.

Indy and Lucy

We hope to see you at the Rally.  Mom and her friend Mary Lauber are giving a workshop on photographing Scotties.  There’s also a barn hunt…Brother’s fave and they have added Earth Dog this year.  We always get our ultrasounds too.  Lots of cool stuff happening: Scottie trivia, auctions, clicker training, pet psychic, memory stones, pet essential oil use, the parade and getting to see all the great friends we have made.  If you can, be sure to come and look us up. ~ Indy and Lucy

Door County Scottie Rally celebrates its sixteenth year, May 20 and 21, in Bailey’s Harbor, WI.  The mail in registration forms were posted on the web site( http://www.doorcountyscottierally.com) yesterday with a discount for those who send theirs in prior to March 15.  Activities include a garden stone work shop, a paint-n-sip class, barn hunts, auctions and races.  Ultrasounds and micro-chipping also can be scheduled.  Sessions in canine training  or private consultations will be available from Jody Hergert-Andresen of Pawsitive Directions and Training, Oshkosh, WI.  Did we mention a parade?

Who doesn’t love a parade especially of Scots?  Join us if you can for fellowship, fun and fundraising to support the rescue and health of our Scottie breed.  Hope to see you there. ~ Indy and Lucy

May Moments

imageVisiting Door County in May allows us to have two springs, one in Oklahoma and another in Wisconsin. It’s early spring when we arrive for the rally and flowers are just beginning to bloom although it is still quite cool. You’ll notice in all the pictures we have on jackets most of the time.imageWe always take a few days to sight see while we are here. This is Whitefish Dunes State Park. Door County has five state parks, 19 county parks, local parks as well as nature preserves. The whole peninsula abounds with the beauty of nature and breath-taking views.

imageYou might want to take a ride in a fireboat.

imageor you could tour a lighthouse.

imageA walk on the bay?

imageMaybe a lunch on Kangaroo Lake?

imageOf course, the real reason we are in Door County is to attend the rally and raise money to help Scotties through research and rescue. But we might as well have some more fun while we are here.

image

imageAnother bonus is meeting fantastic Scottie people like  Larry and Mary Lauber, Gordon and Gillis,

imageMary Bower and Piper,

IMG_7850and Jake–Christopher and Natalie Johnson.

image The ladies that belong to this float work tirelessly rescuing and re-homing Scottish Terriers.  Hats off to the St. Louis Scottish Terrier Rescue.

David with Allison Rainboth.  We meet new friends every year.

imageSo all you Scots out there, be sure to put the Door County Scottie Rally on your bucket list; come see us and The Dogfather (our Dad) every third weekend in May. ~ Indy and Lucy

Clan Donald leads the Parade of Scots to the town of Bailey’s Harbor located a mile and a half away.IMG_8440Bailey’s Harbor is a small village known for its natural areas, beautiful shorelines, historic lighthouses and welcoming community, all of which turn out to clap and cheer on the Scotties.

“If you’re not in the parade, you watch the parade.”….Mike Ditka

imageRight before the parade a solar halo also called a sundog appeared in the sky. We took it as a good omen.

image

Clan Donald from Green Bay, WI. provided the marching music for the occasion. The Drum Sergeant readied the pipers.

IMG_1579-1Piping represents an integral part of Highland clan society so it is only fitting that a parade of Scotties be led by a corps of pipers.

image Commencing with the enchanting sounds of the Highland bagpipes and drums accompanied by a chorus of arooos, Clan Donald leads the parade into the town of Bailey’s Harbor.

image

Over 140 Scottish Terriers and their staff from seventeen states have gathered this year to promote fellowship among those passionate about the breed, bring a public awareness of health issues affecting Scottish terriers and raise financial support for health related research and rescue.

imageProceeds donated from the rally to  rescue groups, Scottie clubs, humane societies, and cancer research programs have exceeded over $133, 800 to date.

imageJoseph Harvill, publisher and editor of Great Scots magazine and Scottie advocate marched in the parade carrying the flag of Scotland.

For the second year in a row

Last year I jumped the barrier at the time trials, jumped back in and still managed to have the best time. This year I ran a straight course.

IMG_8116Here I am with Mom at the starting line. She’s looking down the 30 yard track, waiting for signal from Dad.

imageDad calls my name and I’m off.

imageMy time for the 30 yard sprint is 3.2 seconds improving last year’s score of 3.8.

imageThis is my certificate. It was presented to me by Michele Bronsky, founder and President of the Door County Scottie Rally.  I also got a Scottie full of dog treats.

imageHere I am with Dad receiving my award.

Door County Scottie Rally

We went to Door County, Wisconsin for the first time in 2013. It was a 16 hour drive so we drove through Kansas to Des Moines, Iowa the first day and on to Door County the second. We stayed at Applewood Cottage, located on the EE between Egg Harbor and Fish Creek. The Door County Scottie Rally is a two-day event that always occurs the third weekend in May. There are all kinds of activities and workshops to attend as well as auctions,  informative sessions, ultrasound screenings, behavior consultations, micro-chipping.  Mom learned how to make a tug toy and I won the prize for the fastest Scottie. We made great friends there and helped contribute to the health and rescue of Scottish terriers. On the second day, there was a parade and all the Scotties ( usually over 100) were led through the town of Bailey’s Harbor by a corps of bagpipers. The streets were lined with cheering clapping, people; Mom was worried if we could do it but we were naturals and it was our favorite thing. After the rally, we visited the national parks, lighthouses, cherry orchards (they were blooming and magnificent), wineries, small villages and just enjoyed the spectacular scenery of this Lake Michigan peninsula. ~ Indy and Lucy
