Summer Fun

My new orange ball is so cool. You can put treats in it as well as fetch it.  Mom says I do not need any encouragement.

image

I like nothing better.

image

Sometimes Mom has to put the ball up because she said: “Lucy, you just don’t know when to stop.”

image

Be sure to hydrate in this summer weather.  Heat index in Oklahoma will be up to 103 this afternoon.  You can rest assured I won’t be out there.  Our waterbowl on the porch is always fresh and clean though just in case we have to check our mail.  Brother and I are not very neat drinkers.

Have fun, keep cool, and drink lots of water wherever you are; that goes for your peeps too.  Love ya. ~ Lucy

Tag, You’re It

Shoe tags used by runners everywhere are motivational scripts for your feet.

image
image

Now they have become the new foot accessory.  If you can lace it, you can tag it.  Tags can be customized with any quote, name, date, or medical alert.  The possibilities are endless.  Etsy is a great source for tags but any charm in your  jewelry box can easily be adapted for shoe bling.

These are Mom’s walking shoes.  Yes, they are supposed to be laced that way.  The tags with our names she bought from an Etsy shop.  The Scottie charms are OUR dog tags.  Have some fun with your feet. ~ Indy and Lucy

Traveler

It is with sad hearts that we had to say goodbye to our buddy, Traveler.  He has not been well since Christmas.  Additionally,  he was quite old for a parakeet …10 years.  He was a rescue bird.  Mom found him after a summer storm much like the one we had this weekend.  She was out for a walk when she saw him in the street; he flew to a low hanging branch as she approached.  Unfortunately, his view was blocked by a pickup and he did not see the kitty beneath the tree.  Flying to escape the kitty he hit the mirror of the pickup; fell at Mom’s feet and the rest is history.  Mom brought him home and named him Traveler after Robert E Lee’s favorite horse.  First Scottie, Sophie was jealous of Traveler.  When Mom changed the paper in his cage, she would go to another room and not come out till Mom was finished.  We liked him.  We only rushed his cage a couple of times when we were pups.

image

Here is Traveler during better times.  He was very pretty.  Actually he was a she because one time he laid an egg but we have always called him he.  Mom put a clock by his cage that had bird sounds at every hour.  It wasn’t too long that Trav was making all the bird sounds himself.

image

So we laid Traveler to rest Friday afternoon in his little box that Dad built.

Stormy Weather

Storms began around 9 last night.  We went to bed.  This morning it was clear but wet.

image

Gauge reads almost 2 inches.  Mom said: “Good, we needed it.”

image

When we went out for our am yard patrol, the moon hadn’t gone to bed yet.  July full moon is called the Buck Moon because male deer begin to grow antlers at this time or it can be known as the Moon of Thunder as the Native Americans called it. Either way it looked pretty this morning.

An Apple a Day

On our FB page the other day, we were talking about the fruits Scotties liked.  We had just tried peaches; gave them a paws up but remember any fruit should be washed and have its rinds, peeling, seeds, pits and skins removed. Grapes are a NO fruit: toxic!  Anyway, Mom saw this list and thought it would be helpful.  Living in small town Oklahoma we have many fruits available at farmers markets during the summer.  Watermelon and cantaloupe are especially abundant. To obtain organic fruits or a variety of fruits we must drive to Tulsa, 60 miles away. Our year round go to fruit is definitely blueberries which Mom buys in a big carton at Sam’s. We share them with her and often have a teaspoon of Greek yogurt on the side, so to speak.  Blueberries have high levels of resveratrol with anticancer and heart disease fighting qualities.  Their tannins also help urinary tract infections. Those characteristics make them ideal for Scotties.

Apples are another that we love.  They are super antioxidant and loaded with Vitamin C.  There is something behind that old cliché of “An apple a day……”.  We usually have some bananas in the basket too.  Brother does not care for them.  Mom thinks it is the texture. Excellent supply of potassium though.  Strawberries containing Vitamins C,K,B, B6 and fiber can be purchased year round here.  We usually have some sort of berry in the fridge because Mom likes to have a smoothie for breakfast.  Cantaloupe is the super fruit of summer.  A source of Vitamins A, B6 and C, it is also beneficial to eyesight, reduces cancer risk, and helps prevent cell damage.  It is quite tasty too.  We have tried mango and liked it but it is one for the Tulsa list. I like practically anything; Brother is more selective.  Ask your Dr. Pokey if fruit would be good for you.  We eat fruits as a supplement: 1/2 an apple, 4-5 blueberries, others in 1 inch servings of one to three pieces.  Hey, Mom’s no doc….remember she was an English teacher…this is just what works with us. ~ Indy and Lucy

Well, you can Goggle us and find us lots of places.  We began as a public page on Facebook.  Our first friends were Angus Fala, Ruffles and Skyler Braveheart.  We occasionally spill over to our Mom’s page (Trisha Jones) as well.  The Adventures of Indy and Lucy on FB  is still our primary source of communication.  Yes, we do have a Twitter account ( Indy and Lucy @ trishalynn1025) and regular tweets appear because they transfer from FB or WordPress.  Mom does not keep up with that account very well.  She says you have to pick and choose.  You can also find us on Pinterest (Trisha Jones and board name: Indy and Lucy).  She pins selected pictures of us there.  You are welcome to Pin them.  She also has other boards devoted to Scotties, her favorite color, places she loves, the UK Royal family and many things that interest her.  Oh yeah, we are on Instagram. You can locate us at INDYLUCY.  It is a place for chosen pictures too.  A couple of months ago, we started this blog (something Mom said she would never do) but primarily as a way to have more detailed information on record.  Who knows what she might do with it.  Anyway, we have met fabulous people, had great times, good laughs and would not trade it for anything.  So if you are in the neighborhood, stop by. ~ Indy and Lucy

Photographing Scotties

30 Tuesday Jun 2015

Mom receives a lot of questions on how to photograph black Scotties.  First of all, her only camera is an IPhone.  Right now, she is using a 6+ but she is seriously considering going to the 6 when the next phone comes out because the 6+ is just too unwieldy in one hand.  The SRL cameras are wonderful but for pictures of daily living, they are just not feasible.  Mom said by the time she sets up the shot with one of those, the moment is lost.

image

Of course with black Scotties it is all about the eye.  Unless you can see the eye, the Scottie would look (as some people have described their pics ) like a lump of coal. Our house has a lot of natural light which is fantastic for photographing our faces.  This picture was taken with the sun is shining in a southern window lighting my face.  On the  IPhone 6+, when you touch the photo screen, you can see a square with a sun to the right.  You can move that sun up and down to adjust the light.  Mom doesn’t use it often but she has on occasion; she never uses a flash.  After you have taken a photo, at the bottom there is an edit, click that.  You have four symbols.  The first is crop and Mom is a BIG fan of the crop.  The 3 circles are filters; she never uses those.  There are many photo apps that are much more fun.  The third symbol looks kind of like a clock.  If you click it, you will see  the word light.  Click light and you can adjust your picture.  Especially useful is the shadows where you can slide a bar illuminating them.  This is terrific with Scottie faces but be careful because it adjusts the whole picture and can wash it out.  There are many photo editor apps.  For our daily posts on our FB page and this blog , Mom just uses her phone; it is quick and easy.  Sounds to us like the cooking thing, not too many steps.

image

All the lighting tips above work outside too.  Mom prefers early am pics or evening.  She tries to get the sun behind her.

image

She tries to shoot on our level also.  She might take 10 pictures as fast as she can (sometimes she doesn’t even look in the viewfinder) and usually she will find a good one.  She loves this picture; she says it is so us.  We were running around playing chase with the toys and she picked up the phone and took a bunch of pictures.  For this one, she just leaned the camera down and shot it from where she was sitting on the couch.  Remember, take a bunch, delete what you don’t like. Happy shooting and aim to please yourself. ~ Indy and Lucy

Weekend In June

The peeps were busy in the yard this weekend mowing, mulching, and that sort of thing.  We are not allowed outside while that is going on.  Safety rules.

image

We played some ball.  It was a beautiful day; it wasn’t too hot with a light breeze.  Then Dad said: “Who wants to go see Miss Robbie?”  That’s the code for bath.

image

Dad grilled and Mom fixed some corn on the cob.   It’s summertime in Oklahoma.  Tomatoes here will be ready in a couple of weeks.  Sister loves them.  Hope you had a good weekend where you are. ~ Indy
