Installment Four….
For sixteen years, the Door County Scottie Rally has been ‘educating the public and owners regarding issues which impact the health and welfare of Scottish terriers, providing financial support for Scottish terrier health related research and rescue, and promoting fellowship among those passionate about the breed.’ The rally is held every 3rd weekend in May in Baileys Harbor ,Wisconsin. At last count, 150 terriers from 15 states and Australia attended the event this year. Two of them were us.
The rally opens at three on Friday and setting up is the first order of business. We like Dad to sit in the enclosure with us. Initially, the noise and confusion of so many Scotties and their owners coming together is a bit overwhelming.
Workshops, anyone? The memory stone workshop taught by Melis Lambrecht was fabulous this year. Jody Hergert-Andresen from Pawsitive Directions holds invaluable consultations for both days.
Silent and live auction items were available for viewing.
It is always exciting to see old friends and make new.
The Rainbow Bridge dedication was held Friday night. It’s a calm place for reflective thought or perhaps to leave a remembrance.
Some of us just need a massage or the rally offers ultrasounds at an affordable price too. Both of ours were good with no evidence of TCC or anything else.
Concluding the event, were the Speedy Scottie trials and I ( Indy) was foiled again. Right before my run, a fellow Scottie left me some peemail and I stopped to open it and therefore shot my timing. Maybe it was some diabolical plot. However, Sister surprisingly went down the course this year. Dad lured her across the finish.

Thanks, Spark et all. It was nice to meet your puppyness. You had not grown as much as I thought.

These are the photos I look forward to seeing each year. I was away on a week’s break down in Durban and have been trying to catch up since. Now I have all the other posts to see. I love them all and was very touched by the remembrance for Charlotte Harvill. I remember her well and even had the pleasure of talking to her once, way back. I used to get my monthly magazine, Great Scots. I so wish that Joseph had managed to keep it up, but fully understand why he had to finally put it to bed. Beautiful photos all along and love the race trials. Of course you have to read pee mails Indy…..you just never know !! I too have two beautiful Scottie Remembrance stones in my garden.

The Rainbow Bridge memorial is beautiful thanks to a large donation by Joseph. This year he also donated many personal Scottie items for the live and silent auction.

Everything looks like wonderful fun! No wonder people go year after year! The silent auction items – the Scottie table and quilt are fabulous! How the rally educates people and continues to advance healthcare issues, research and rescue for Scotties is just remarkable!

It is so rewarding too.

The crafts are first rate. One of my dear friends sat in an x-pwn after open heart surgery so that she could be in the same room as her Scotties and still be safe.

Sorry, I don’t need a Scotty massage. Those terriers can be rough on birds.

Our friend, Mary Bower, made that one. Mom made one for Sophie the first year we went. The Silent Auction is a whole tent lined with tables of Scottie treasures. So much fun.
