Yesterday morning I noticed two bunnies facing each other in our yard. One would inch a little closer and the other would jump straight up in the air. The next time the rabbit ran right at the other bunny and it jumped again allowing the other to go under it. I was so busy watching this unusual behavior that I forgot to bark.
I asked Mom to find out what was happening.
“Run and play, little rabbit,” said the Fairy to the Velveteen Rabbit and play they did. I was a witness to what is known in the rabbit world as ‘binking’. It is one of the most notable ways that rabbits communicate jubilation. Who knew, right? The buns are simply trying to express how happy they are and perhaps a bit mischievous. Now it could be a ‘spring dance’ too; we will have to wait and see but I think they were just binking in the early summer morning.
They are probably doing this while we sleep. ~ Lucy
