Parade of Scots

Mom has decided that video editing is not her thing.  After two days and nights of exasperating attempts, she was unsuccessful at putting together a Scottie rally parade video from  various clips. However she is quite happy with the stills made into a movie by this clever little app called Replay.  While it lacks having all the different Scotties and their staff, it still retains the essence of the parade.  She thinks it will be just fine for our purposes and won’t cause her to miss out on the parade. Enjoy.  Until next year Bailey’s Harbor….~ Indy and Lucy

Door County: A Place Like Nowhere Else

Every year Mom makes her list for Door County.  She writes down her favorite restaurants as well as new places to try.  She loves the Chop in Sister Bay; we discovered it last year.  Gotta have a pizza from the Wild Tomato!  She likes breakfast at the Blue Horse; Dad has the Meatzilla and she has the fruit parfait.  She said Carina makes the best caramel latte and the windows facing Fish Creek Beach are perfect for watching Main Street wake up.  We wag our tails at her as Dad takes us on our walk.  A return visit to the White Gull called for some cherry pancakes although their cherry stuffed French toast is liked by many.  White Gull Inn, dating back to 1896, provides a perfect atmosphere and Mom said the hash browns are out of this world. This year we tried the Harbor Grille in Bailey’s Harbor. It has a nice water view, oysters on the half shell and absolutely the best cherry pie in Door County.  We will be going back there next year as well as DC Deli for BBQ and Coyote Cafe for a burger and a reuben. Mom has been talking about a ferry ride for two years and this year we did it.  It was a beautiful day and got to see some neat new sights.  Of course, the real reason we come up here is for the Scottie rally but Mom figures if you drive this far you need to stay awhile.  We took a nice tour around Peninsula  Park, did a photo shoot with Carina’s sister, Heidi, shopped and just enjoyed the natural beauty that is Door County.  We heard Mom talking about a harbor ride and a Segway tour for next year…..get ready. ~ Indy and Lucy

Angus Manor

Angus Manor ( Now Open Under New Management)

We always look forward to visiting with our friends, Catman, Uncle Bob, Aunt Judy, Ainsley McKenna, and Mama (although she was at a doll convention this year) as we make our way home from Door County.  We also got to meet Lisa Gerstner and Happy Handsome Jack and Princess Peyton from Chicago.

image

We had a special mission this year.  We had a portrait to deliver to Catman and Mama that was painted by Valeria Moldovan.  It was a gift from Catherina Willi (Hermine), Ling Chua(Ruffles and Munchkin), and our pawrents. It is commemorative of Angus Fala’s crossing of the Rainbow Bridge.

Aunt Judy fixed a great buffet for Scotties and humans.  Dining was al fresco.

It was a great summer afternoon.

Front row: Mom and me(Indy), Aunt Judy and Ainsley McKenna, Lisa and Princess P.  Back row: Dad and Sister and Uncle Bob and Handsome Jack.  Sister and the Princess tried to hook horns a couple of times….these women.  I was content to run the fence line and patrol the territory.  There was one moment when Sister did ‘the rush’ as the Princess was dining on a cookie.  Catman said even he would have dropped the cookie.  We called her ‘the intimidator’ after that.  We elected not to stay in Peru as was our usual habit due to Peru’s close proximity to Chicago and the canine influenza outbreak.  Instead we moved down the road a couple of hours to Springfield, IL.

Scottie fellowship is a cornerstone of the Door County Scottie Rally.  Since the rally attendees come from all parts of the US ( people pictured below come from MN, KS ,WI, Australia, MO, IL, LA and Utah) , it is often the only time that a lot of them see each other so you know there is a lot of bonding going on. ~ Indy and Lucy

A card making workshop this year was taught by Cindy Fredricks.  We hung out with Dad while Mom made cards.

Memory stone classes are always a hit.  This is one made by Melissa Lambrecht.  Isn’t it gorgeous?  Mom made one a few years ago for first Scottie, Sophie.

Mom loves our prints.  We weren’t crazy about it but we did it. 🙂

Nothing too good for us furbabies.

Silent and live auctions…Mom is going to have Dad make this.

Raffles!  Dad wanted in again.  There are other activities as well: Scottie face painting, an agility course, and informative sessions on grooming and behavior, This year the pet psychic, the ultrasounds and micro-chipping were not available but will return next year.  Mom loves to work with Jody Hergert-Andresen, a canine behaviorist.  She owns Pawsitive Directions in Oshkosh and is available at the rally for consultations and breakout out sessions.  Mom never misses time with Jody.   Our family is already looking forward to Door County Scottie Rally 2016…see you there. ~ Indy and Lucy

Dogtime in Door: Barn Hunt

A new activity for the pups at this year’s rally was a barn hunt; it was very popular.  I loved it. Sister? Well, she is the Princess.  First they showed me the rat in a wired box, then it was transferred to a tube, hidden in the hay and I had to look for it.  The rat handlers said I was a ‘natural’.  Of course no rats are harmed and it is great sport for the dogs. ~ Indy

Rally

One of the neat things about the Door County Scottie Rally is that it has activities for grown ups as well as Scotties.  This is a “Paint and Sip” class on Thursday night prior to the rally. All those in attendance learned to paint a Scottie thanks to our patient and encouraging instructor , Jennifer Aldrich.

image

Mom decided to paint one of me.  It is a pretty good likeness.  She think it needs some touch up cause she ran out of time.

image

Everyone in the class had a lot of fun and want to do it again next year.

image

Dad thought Mom did a good job too.

Sunset Park

West of Cottage Row on Main Street in the lovely village of Fish Creek, WI. Is Sunset Beach Park where a small green lawn, a stone wall and some benches line a crescent of beach. It is here that the sun sinks directly into Green Bay, vanishing into open water, painting the sky with its colors.image

Fish Creek is a picturesque village on the bay side of the Door County peninsula. We stay in a cottage there behind the Blue Horse Beach Cafe. We go on lots of daily walks and most of them take us past this gallery: 2 for U design and Gallery owned by Heidi and Georgi Atanasov. By chance, Heidi’s sister, Carina owns the Blue Horse and the rest is history or so we say.  Heidi loves animals, is  currently compiling a portfolio of pet photography, and wanted to photograph us so we arranged for a shoot. Sunset Beach,at one end of Fish Creek,  proved to be a perfect spot. The pictures are marvelous and we will show them to you soon. ~ Indy and Lucy

Navigating the Door

Sometimes navigating the Door is not easy as shown by this unique landmark called Jen Jensen’s Winding Road.  Jensen, a Danish-born landscape architect, founded an landscape architect school nearby.  You can follow this winding road passing Gills Rock, heading toward the car ferry on Hwy. 42.  Right now the road is dressed in its spring colors.  Mom would like to see its fall and winter outfits too.

image

On the ledge….a view from the edge of Sven’s Bluff.  The bluff is a popular overlook spot in Peninsula State Park.  Mom wants to be sure to get some sunset pictures here next year.

The sands of the Ridges Sanctuary are only a part of this U.S. National Natural Landmark.  The Ridges is also home to 500 different species of plants, 25 species of native orchids, and 60 species of breeding birds.  This beach area was open to dogs.  It was pretty windy and cold; Mom was wanting some more oysters on the half shell so our stay was short. ~ Lucy
