A retablo, in Mexican folk art, is a devotional painting usually honoring a patron saint. Mom saw one of St. Francis and Scotties in an auction last week. Gathering information, she found it was not only sold in gallery by the artist but also through her favorite pet place in Santa Fe, Teca Tu. It was destined for our home.
After ordering, the artist, David Ross, contacted Mom and wanted to know about us, our personalities, likes and dislikes…that sort of thing.
He also does other prized animal art.
The retablo has since arrived and it is gorgeous.
Mom loved the message on the back too.
It is indeed a treasure.
It is approximately 8×10 which is the perfect size for the two of us.
The detail is amazing.
Mom thanks the Texas Scottie Rescue for bringing this to her attention. Mom says it captures two of her loves: Santa Fe and us. Mom, geeez..~ Indy and Lucy
I love it too! and I bett Wyatt and Ruby will love this bench :o)

Oh My! St Francis is Mum’s Favorite Saint for very obvious reasons! She asks him several times a day to please intercede for the most vulnerable and innocent of God’s creatures who have no voice, no rights, yet are among the most precious gifts that God has bestowed on UNWORTHY man! She asks God, and St Francis to also ask God, to protect all animals from the cruelty of people, that everyone treat ALL animals with kindness, respect, (for the gifts from God that they truly are), compassion, and humane treatment.
We love the Retablo that you commissioned from David Ross from Santa Fe! We love Santa Fe too. Santa fe is mum’s old stomping grounds before she was 18 years old! She’s only gone back 5 times since in the many, many years that have elapsed since she was 18. She went to St Joseph’s Elementary and Loretto Academy HS many, many moons ago taught by the Sisters of Loretto who used to own the chapel in Santa Fe with the awesome spiral staircase that St Joseph built for the Sisters of Loretto. We’re sure you’ve seen it in Santa Fe.
We just love your Retablo with the personal message and signature. It is just Precious!
Thank you so much for the pictures and for letting us know about this shop and the artist!
Indy and Lucy, you are very special Scotties under the protection of kind and humble St Francis of Assisi!

Love it–did not realize that they will paint whatever you want–getting ideas–having 2 black scotties is beautiful, but a black and a Wheaton is perfection!
