Remember the two picture frames?
They have now been repurposed. Mom has been in need of some kind of magnetic board for her favorite Scottie magnets. All it took was a picture frame, the back off an old microwave cut down and some paint.
The larger frame was required to house Mom’s collection of “Macs”.
Boyd glass factory in Cambridge, Ohio featured the Mac as the fourth in their Scottie series. The series began with a special called the ‘Hokey Pokey’ in Oct. 2005 and the rest following till 2011. The prototype for the Scottie was rejected by 3 Scottie collectors (Karen Campbell, Lesley Connor, and the editor of the then Scottie Sampler, Sydney B).
(Middle is rejected prototype) The image was revised and the current one was approved as a ‘typical Scottie’ as we are sure you will agree. (Lesley, feel free to correct or add anything and thanks for providing this information) Mom tried putting a glaze on the frame but she didn’t like it and repainted. She is thinking about adding a mirrored back but that is a project for another day. For now, it makes a perfect display case for these little Macs. ~ Indy and Lucy
Wow! They came out beautiful! What a great idea for the magnets and the Boyd glass. We are very impressed and give your mom an A+. Please ask her to explain the back of a microwave that she used as the magnet.
Thanks!

It was simply the back that Dad took off an old microwave. Then he cut to fit the frame. You could take your frame to Lowe’s, Home Depot, some where like that and get some sheet metal to fit. That’s what she was going to do till Dad came up with this.

Oh, that makes sense. I didn’t realize the back was metal. Great idea to re-purpose something!
Thanks!

What is the height of one of the Boyd’s glass–I thought they were about 4 inches, but in the frame they look like they must be smaller.

What was wrong the one in the middle? Kyla used to beg for food like that all the rime. Kyla was always hungry.

We didn’t like the tail either. It looked like a cats tail. The revised Mac has his tail going straight out like a Scottie in the begging sit.

I had gotten magnetic sheets in the stationery department of office Depot and Joanne’s fabric many years ago. They were for going through a printer, but I’m sure that they can be used for your purpose. They are beautiful as always.

You really did a marvelous job! Such great ideas for your collectibles! I love both projects. I’ve seen DIY tips using a cookie baking sheet for a magnet board to be painted or covered with cloth. You’d have to cut it to size too for the frame. Yours turned out just perfectly! We love it! Your collections are amazing!

Mom gives four paws up. She said the color arrangment is pawsome, look like a rainbow. The Boyd glass Scotties are favorites because of the many colors. They never did a piece in the same color.

Mom likes the names too. They must have looked at it and said: “That looks like a meadow or something.”
