The dog days of summer are really not about canines at all.  It refers to the interval when Sirius, the Dog Star, rises and sets at the same time as the sun.  In the Northern hemisphere, that time coincides with the hottest part of the summer, roughly from July 3 to August 11.

As you can see, yesterday in Oklahoma, it was certainly that.

It is a period marked by inactivity, listlessness, and disinterest.  The ancient Greeks and Romans got that one right.

We have a couple of more days till the cutoff so stay cool and hydrated. Keep this in mind: ” According to folklore, if the first week of August is unusually warm, the winter will be white and long.”  Sounds good to me. ~ Lucy
