It is with sad hearts that we had to say goodbye to our buddy, Traveler. He has not been well since Christmas. Additionally, he was quite old for a parakeet …10 years. He was a rescue bird. Mom found him after a summer storm much like the one we had this weekend. She was out for a walk when she saw him in the street; he flew to a low hanging branch as she approached. Unfortunately, his view was blocked by a pickup and he did not see the kitty beneath the tree. Flying to escape the kitty he hit the mirror of the pickup; fell at Mom’s feet and the rest is history. Mom brought him home and named him Traveler after Robert E Lee’s favorite horse. First Scottie, Sophie was jealous of Traveler. When Mom changed the paper in his cage, she would go to another room and not come out till Mom was finished. We liked him. We only rushed his cage a couple of times when we were pups.
Here is Traveler during better times. He was very pretty. Actually he was a she because one time he laid an egg but we have always called him he. Mom put a clock by his cage that had bird sounds at every hour. It wasn’t too long that Trav was making all the bird sounds himself.
So we laid Traveler to rest Friday afternoon in his little box that Dad built.
Fly free at last. ~ Indy and Lucy, Mom and Dad

So sorry for the loss of your little bird–he seemed like a good friend-it is very nice that you did not rush his cage and scare him very often. Maybe he and Sophie will be friends beyond the Rainbow Bridge!

Tears from Mama. What a lovely story. Love his name, his abode, and his grave. We have been pet sitting for the cat & bird next door. Mama has been trying to teach Dude to say, Nite, nite, sleep tight. It amuses them both, while the cat smirks. Dude flew onto their carport roof. John got a ladder and the Dude jumped right on his hand. Mama, PawPaw and Noah witnessed the daring rescue. We think it has been ten years. Dude can see our Bermuda triangle of neighbors we are close to, and as such, is our bird alarm. Sweet rest, precious Traveler. We mourn your passing as well.

So very sorry Traveler has had to leave you, but she can now serve as aerial scout for the Scottie brigade guarding the rainbow bridge and give the alert when she sees yet another good friend and Scottie arriving. A worthy task for this brave bird.

Traveler will be missed by all of you, but especially Mama. We think putting the bird clock beside him was brilliant. Just please do NOT pee on his grave! Hugs!

i will put Traveler in my thoughts to Angus tonight. Make sure they give her a suitable welcome at the Angus Fala Boiled Egg and Ice cream Parlor. I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. I was just looking at parakeets today at Petstoopid.

Sorry to hear about Traveler! We still miss our Canary, Henry!
Just think of Traveler flying amongst the clouds with Angel wings. He will probably try to find his way to the Rainbow Bridge, too!
He’s a parakeet, right?(I use the present tense because he lives on in our minds and hearts!)
Love and hugs,
Riley-Puppy and Tessie-Girl
